Frequently Asked Questions

What are the requirements to adopt?

You must fill out an application with all information provided. If any information is left out or falsified, your application will not be processed and will automatically be denied. All family members living in the home must pass a background check. All animals in the home must be up-to-date on vaccinations (please call your vet and authorize them to release your information to us or your application will not be processed). Home ownership will be verified and a home inspection will be completed. If you rent you must have landlord approval (we will be calling to confirm approval).

Is the dog I am interested in still available?

Please understand our website is run strictly by volunteers, though our website is updated on a regular basis it may not be updated daily. Dogs still listed on our website may currently having a pending application. They are removed from the adoption page once they are adopted.

How do I meet a dog I am interested in adopting?

The first step is to fill out an adoption application. Our dogs are located in foster homes across southeastern Wisconsin and northeastern Illinois NOT at our facility. Once an application is submitted and processed you will be contacted for the next steps. Filling out an application for a specific dog neither guarantees nor obligates you to adopt that dog. An application stays on file for 60 days and can be updated at any time by emailing the rescue. After 60 days a new application must be submitted.

How long will the adoption process take?

Once an application is submitted it can take 24-72 hours for processing. We process applications in the order they are received. This time can vary if a vet and/or landlord needs to be contacted. Once the application is processed you will be contacted for the status of your application. If approved and the dog is still available you will be contacted by the foster family to answer any questions you or they may have and proceed with setting up a home inspection and a meet and greet. If the dog you applied for is no longer available or has a pending application you will be contacted and informed of this.
